Three Altruistic Musketeers Attack Potholes

2 April: Update on the fixing of potholes by local St Francis residents to prevent bad accidents happening through a huge amount of amounts on the R330, following several accidents and damage to vehicles and tyres.

The intrepid trio are Trevor Wright, who started the ball rolling and spent last Sunday planting flags to warn motorists that potholes were there! Then there is Barry Buchman, who, together with Craig Kilfoil and Trevor, are the three musketeers getting the pothole fixed with ordered material and physically assisting with the labour.

Here is a photo of the R330 St Francis side of the bridge. Sorting out all the potholes due to their proximity to each other, which allows us to fill a lot in a short space of time. From here, the pothole-repair team will go back towards Humansdorp after the bridge.

According to Barry, the total contributions of donations for kind residents who have opened their purses willingly to save lives on the road, in the absence of those in power, have exceeded R100,000. “We are well on our way to a pothole-free R330. Not quite enough to complete the whole road, but we are getting there

. Yesterday, he said 12 potholes were filled, but it’s now becoming apparent just how many there are. “Not sure we will get to all of them by the time the funds run out. Today, we will start with that nasty one at the Sand River coming into St. Francis Bay. Then head back to the first flag on the R330 heading towards Humansdorp and start with the larger potholes in sequence.

With their private team, referred by Scribante, commencing work this morning, how many days they are used at 10 potholes per day, depends on available funding. The musketeers, aka’ Bomb Squad’ have enough funds for seven (7) days of repairs but require more generous donations to be able to tackle the entire road!

“I have paid for the first day at just under R16,000 per day on behalf of my wife’s businesses, MLR Attorneys, Notaries and Conveyancers and 3%.com real estate agency. If necessary, I will fund tomorrow as well, but I can’t fund day 3, being today, Thursday.

“I’m looking for corporate sponsors and generous individuals who will contribute towards this initiative. All who donate will be mentioned here unless they wish to remain anonymous.

“My bank details are below, and I will advise once we have enough funding to complete all 3 days. I am committed to the full day 1 funding, but would ideally like the next two days to be from donations. Banking details: Barry Buchman, First National Bank, 62786099004.”

According to Craig, he has ordered boxes of the PatchPal solution. “Trevor, Barry and myself will do a few tests – it may be better suited for doing many more small pot-holes quickly and cheaply before they become real safety hazards – assuming it is effective. We will also need to work out the logistics as a small local DIY team solution, and we will post an update. –
