Jerome Simonis, NSRI Knysna station commander, said shortly before 8 am on 2 May NSRI Station 21 volunteer duty crew were activated after reports of a body in the water near Belvedere on Knysna Lagoon.
NSRI Knysna rescue swimmers and the SA Police Services (SAPS) responded while NSRI Knysna boat crew launched the NSRI rescue craft JayTee IV, accompanied by SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services (SAPS WPDS) and +WC Government Health EMS was alerted.
The woman’s body in a maroon top and dark in coloured slacks, about 40+ years-old , was found and recovered onto the NSRI rescue craft by a Police diver, ans by NSRI Knysna crew members.) It is believed the woman may have been fishing.
The unidentified body was taken to the NSRI station 12 Knysna rescue base and handed over to Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
