Family and friends of Lyall Beadon are raising funds for his medical rehabilitation after a big wave in the sea at Port Alfred slammed him into a sandbank and broke his neck.
Lyall is currently paralysed in hospital.
People are walking or running this Saturday in Port Elizabeth 12 January 2013 to raise funds in the PG Glass Ed Lunnon Charity Fun Run .
- It is 6 or 12 km Walk or Run : 7am (R20 per person)
- 1km Event for Physically Disabled People : 8am (free entry – contact Zolani on 073 008 8661)
- Enter at Grey Junior tomorrow, Friday 11 January between 5-7 pm or before the race from 6 am
- Medals to all finishers. Lucky Draw Prizes / Refreshments./ Stuart Reece Entertainment

The following is a brief overview of Lyall’s accident, taken for the above website:
On the 1st of January Lyall Beadon went swimming on Kelly’s beach in Port Alfred. The water was waist deep and him and friends were diving into the waves.
A big wave came in and Lyall dived through it. When he dived through the wave, the force of the wave slammed him onto a sandbank and broke his neck
He immediately lost feeling in his body and could not turn himself over. Lyall thought he was going to drown.
The next two waves came in and did not manage to roll his body over. The third wave flipped him over so that he could breathe and call for help.
Lyall’s friend’s managed to pull him out of the surf and called the ambulance. Stacey his sister was also there and with help from his friends, they got him into recovery position.
Lyall could talk and maintained eye contact with his sister. After going to Port Alfred hospital, they were sent to specialists in Beacon Life East London.
Lyall’s C7 vertebrae was crushed by the impact and he is in ICU. He has no feeling from his chest down.
He has asked for messages of encouragement and support. Please keep Lyall in your prayers.
