Gqeberha: SAPS Swartkops are investigating a case of hijacking and kidnapping after 2 Netherlands tourists opened case at SAPS Kariega on Monday having been hijacked and robbed of funds from their banking accounts
It is alleged at about 3.15 pm on 2 December, two tourists, reported to be from the Netherlands, were traveling from Jeffreys Bay to Addo. While traveling on the R335, the couple were stopped by an unknown vehicle with six men.
These suspects smashed the driver’s side window and forced them out of the vehicle into the unknown vehicle. The men then demanded their bank cards and drove around with them in the township.
Their phones were taken, and they were forced to increase their limits on their bank cards. An undisclosed amount of money was drawn at different banks.
After the suspects were finished, they told them to cover their heads with a blanket and wait for 5 minutes, then they could drive off. They then drove to SAPS Kariega, where they reported the robbery.
No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
