NSRI Bakoven volunteer duty crew yesterday towed a yacht with four people on board to safety after it experienced engine failure.
Mark Samassa, NSRI Bakoven deputy station commander, said at 7.23 pm, 17 June, NSRI Bakoven volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority to asset the small local fishing boat Southern Star with four crew on board. It suffered motor mechanical failure off-shore of Sea Point and was adrift at sea and required a tow.
“We launched our sea rescue craft Rotarian Schipper. On arrival we found the casualty boat about a nautical mile off-shore with all crew members safe.
“A tow-line was rigged and the Southern Star was towed to the Oceana Power Boat Club where ther boat was recovered and the crew needed no further assistance.”
