Search for foreign student kidnapped by armed men in PE

Edited by Bev Mortimer

Gqeberha/PE, 10 November 2024:  The Provincial Organised Crime Anti-Gang-Unit in Gqeberha announced this  afternoon that a 20 year-old foreign national , a student in South Africa, Qays Mohaned Hersi Mohamoud, was kidnapped yesterday evening in Gelvandale area in PE and the public’s assistance in tracing him is sought.

It is alleged that at 7 pm yesterday evening the missing student, Qays, was driving a dark grey VW Tiquan and had a friend in the vehicle as a passenger.  At the corner of Aubrey Street and Kobus Road, Parkside, a white motor vehicle passed them and quickly stopped in front of them, causing the Tiquan to stop and another vehicle blocked the Tiquan from behind.

Two armed men then approached the Tiquan and the pair inside the vehicle, moving to both front doors and then forced the two men out of the Tiquan.

The alleged kidnappers demanded and took money and cellphones from Qays and his friend. Qays was then forced into the vehicle behind the Tiquan, and then drove off  leaving the student’s friend behind with the Tiquan.

The incident was reported to the SAPS Gelvandale. The VW Tiquan was then impounded for further investigation.

The SAPS says the motive is unknown and no demands have been made and Qays is still missing this afternoon.

The Gqeberha Provincial Organised Crime Anti-Gang-Unit is busy with the investigation.
