-Edited by Bev Mortimer- Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene, has ordered Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (Anti-Gang Unit) to hunt down perpetrators that shot dead five people in Gelvandale, Gqeberha/PE last night.
It is alleged that at just 10 minutes to midnight some gunmen wearing balaclavas fired shots into an alleged drug post, an outbuilding at the back of house in Koedoe Street, before entering. Five people died (three men and 2 women, aged 22-42).
The victims names and next of kin are still being verified. The motive for the massacre is unclear and the SAPS is busy seeking the identity of the perpetrators. A case of five murders is being investigated.
Lt Gen Mene iterated the loss of innocent lives is always a grave concern. She vowed the police are committed to bringing those responsible to justice. The safety and well-being of our communities remain our utmost priority.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served. We urge anyone with info relating to this case to come forward and assist us in our pursuit for justice.”
