Sand River’s temporary bridge has now washed away

The temporary bridge  washed away at lunchtime today. There is, however,  a pedestrian crossing in place.

The bridge washed away after it was partially opened at the top. so that storm water would not go crashing through once the bridge collapsed ‘naturally’ and then also wash away the pedestrian crossing.

The municipality is busy strengthening this crossing so people can walk to or from St Francis Bay.

The 1 pm meeting with officials responsible for the road  has been postponed till 3 pm today as officials need to strengthen the walkway first..

St Francis Chronicle will keep you posted.
