The Excel Pro Showdown, Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa Shaun Payne (St Francis Bay, EC) defeated his brother and defending two times winner Ryan Payne to clinch the Xcel Pro Showdown at Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa today.
Payne earned R10 000 and a spot into the VonZipper Superheat next month. The Xcel Pro is an invite-only club event, with a selection of Supertubes specialists and locals invited to compete in the event.
The contest organisers choose surfers from the local community, from young to old, professional to blue collar, who just happen to surf Supertubes exceptionally well, and spend time in the water whenever the waves are breaking. The winner of the Xcel Pro gets entry into the VonZipper Superheat, a trials heat for the Billabong Pro, as well as a Nixon 51-30 PU Watch valued at R4500, amongst other prizes.
Along with the Wildcard Slot into the VonZipper Superheat, there are a number of other prizes in the mix. The Best Junior Surfer will win R5,000 and the prize for The Best Wave is also R5,000. There is a Firewire Surfboard, valued at R6,500, for The Best Barrel, as well as a Firewire Surfboard for The Best Move of the Contest.
The winner will receive the aforementioned VonZipper Superheat wildcard, a Nixon watch valued at R4,500 as well as R10,000 cash. Xcel will also be presenting the new NSRI Station in Jeffrey’s Bay with a R2,000 cheque for their emergency stand-by on the the day.
