Yesterday afternoon , 22 April, NSRI Plettenberg Bay volunteer sea duty crew rescued a Johannesburg man after his Hobie-Cat capsized in the sea.
Deon Truter, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, says the NSRI volunteers were activated at 3.45 pm following numerous eye-witness reports of a red distress flare sighted off-shore of the Beacon Island hotel.
The crew launched the sea rescue craft Sally Joan and responded. On arrival they found a capsized Hobie-Cat with a holiday maker, Kevin Allen, holding onto it.
Allen from Parkview, Johannesburg, is staying at his holiday home in Plettenberg Bay. His craft had capsized while sailing and he was unable to right it at sea. Needing assistance he raised the alarm by setting off a red distress flare.
Allen was uninjured and brought to shore. His Hobie-Cat was righted and recovered.
