- Kevin Mealamu, who is captaining the All Blacks side that will play against the Spingboks on Saturday, receives a stunning beaded rugby ball trophy from Nonki of African Drumbeat. The inscription on the trophy read: ‘Nelson Mandela Bay & African Drumbeat Welcome You! Springboks Vs All Blacks 20-08-2011’
Port Elizabeth is currently in a frenzy three days ahead of the match between the Springbok rugby team and the All Blacks on Saturday.
African Drumbeat captured them ariving at PE airport and graciously shared these photos with St Francis Chronicle to share, in turn, with all our readers.
The African music band, headed up by Ruth Mackintosh, was invited by Port Elizabeth Tourism to the airport to drum up a storm for the two rugby teams’ arrival.
The All Blacks arrived first , followed by the Springboks . A huge crowd was there waiting for them on Sunday (14 August) and the team players were literally swamped before heading to their waiting buses.
The dynamic drumming and marimba sounds was a joyful welcome that later was almost drowned out by the crowd’s screams, cheers, whistles and blowing of vuvuzelas.
The All Blacks team members each received a beautiful wire and bead ‘Shaker Ball’ (in the shape of a rugby ball of course)…with compliments of African Drumbeat.
