Thieves nabbed about R400 000 worth of goods made from ostrich leather, such as handbags, lipstick holders, key rings, belts, wallets etc, from the Grasmere Ostrich Farm on Monday night ( 10 December).
The SAP personnel Humansdorp who are investigating the burglary have asked members of the public not to buy stolen property such as ostrich leather accessories. In a media statement from the SAP Uitenghage and Humansdorp cluster, the police say people must report anyone selling such items to the SAP Humansdorp.
The robbery occurred between the hours of 5 pm on the Monday night and 7 am on 11 December. The farm is situated on the R330 to Humansdorp from St Francis Bay, not far from the dip.
The shop owners now have to close their shop during the festive season as 95 % of stock was stolen.
Anyone who might be able to assist the SAPS with information pertaining to the investigation and or the stolen property can contact D/Constable Thamsanqa Sana on cellphone number 073 814 1481 or SAPS Humansdorp on 042 200 4700.
“Remember it is an offence to purchase stolen items,” the police say. “Report and reject stolen goods . It’s the right thing to do”.
