Maureen Sands wins Bridge Fellowship award

Maureen Sands of St Francis Bay won the Fellowship Award at the annual St Francis Bay Bridge Club competition. This fiercely competitive end of year competition had besides many local entries, several keen players from Jeffreys Bay and Natal, plus visiting swallows from the UK and France.

The entry field was so big  the competition had to be played in two sections delineated by colour: green and maroon. Once the scoring system had been explained, the competition started in earnest and concentration was paramount.

The Fellowship Award is presented to a club player who is dedicated, a regular supporter of Monday bridge sessions, who is also skilful, devoted to the game while endeavouring to increase the standard of bridge. Sands was a fitting winner for having given up Monday afternoons throughout the year to teach newcomers to the game. Her efforts boosted membership.

Gammon, mince pies, and Christmas cake (provided by Christine Bowker) set the tone for the holidays.
