Maureen Sands of St Francis Bay won the Fellowship Award at the annual St Francis Bay Bridge Club competition. This fiercely competitive end of year competition had besides many local entries, several keen players from Jeffreys Bay and Natal, plus visiting swallows from the UK and France.

The entry field was so big the competition had to be played in two sections delineated by colour: green and maroon. Once the scoring system had been explained, the competition started in earnest and concentration was paramount.
The Fellowship Award is presented to a club player who is dedicated, a regular supporter of Monday bridge sessions, who is also skilful, devoted to the game while endeavouring to increase the standard of bridge. Sands was a fitting winner for having given up Monday afternoons throughout the year to teach newcomers to the game. Her efforts boosted membership.

The winners of the competition were as follows: Green Section: North/South: Greg Robinson and Andries Strydom from Jeffreys Bay and East/West: Coleen Camp and Perl Stead from St Francis Bay. Sam and Desma Fourie (Jeffreys Bay) came out top for North/South in the maroon section and East /West winners were Wendy Rosser and Wendy Mackenzie (St Francis Bay).
The successful event was held at the St Francis Bay Golf Club where all were welcomed then treated to a delicious prepared by committee members. After the serious bridge activities in the morning there was a lovely lunch at the club, prepared by Heather and team. Gammon, mince pies, and Christmas cake (provided by Christine Bowker) set the tone for the holidays.
Lucky draws and an auction of a Christmas cake also added to the festivities. The proceeds of the auction went to the April Olive Blossom Fund, a charity for animal welfare in St Francis. Judy Beck, Chairman of the Club thanked everyone and made the presentations at prize giving.
