Man arrested at airport with R7.5-million crystal meths

South African Revenue Services’ (SARS) customs officials have intercepted 25kg of crystal methamphetamine valued at R7.5-million at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

The drug bust was made on Friday night, 27 May during an inspection of a flight from Cotonou, Benin.

This follows an arrest two days earlier when a man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 25 May, in possession of a bag containing R6-million worth of the ephedrine drug.

According to the revenue service, all unaccompanied bags were escorted to the SARS customs search area for scanning where 25 plastic bags containing a white substance were found in one of the bags.

“The substance tested positive for crystal methamphetamine, weighing 25.20kg worth a street value of R7 560 000,” it said.
