Lay day with massive surf and dangerous conditions

With huge, incontestable 8-10 foot waves closing out across the bay, officials had no choice but to call off all scheduled competition for day 3 of the Billabong Pro Junior at Victoria Bay today.

During the morning a few brave surfers attempted the ominous paddle out the back but with only 3 waves actually ridden all morning, and one surfer getting washed across the bay and up against the rocks, the decision to call off competition was more than justified.

With a mobile contest infrastructure, organisers spent large parts of the morning scouting out other potential venue options as far away as Mossel Bay, but the extent of the swell pattern simply rendered any other location unsuitable.

With no heats surfed today officials are left with a congested full day of surfing scheduled for tomorrow to finsh the event.

An official call will be made at 6:45 am with a possible 7:15 am start dependant  on conditions.
