Everyone is invited to the SuperSpar St Francis Bay Calamari Cooking competitions and Box Car race this evening.
The fun evening, suitable for young and old, in fact the entire family, is in aid of the Friends of St Francis Fire-fighters, a non-profit organisation set up to raise funds for much needed fire fighting equipment for local St Francis volunteer fire-fighters..
From 5.30 this evening in the downstairs parking lot next to SuperSpar, there will be the great SuperSpar Box Car race round the village with several prize categories – from best dressed car or team to fastest or funniest etc.

At the same time there will be the town’s first Calamari Cook-off competition between chefs and cooks from St Francis. Each chef will be allocated calamari to cook in their own style. By purchasing a book of tickets for R60 p/p, attendees will be able to taste the calamari and then vote for their favourite dish.
Then the same chefs will take part in a Mystery Box Cook-off where they will have to see what they can produce from selected ingredients on a table. They will have 30 mins to create a dish that attendees and a panel of judges will judge as the best of the day. Calamari has been donated by Christy’s Catch.
The former coffee shop overlooking the parking lot, will be a Pub and shelter from the weather, if necessary this evening..
Friends of St Francis Fire-fighters
“When a person comes up, shakes your hand and says, “Thank you for saving my house.” “Thank you for cutting my child out of that crashed vehicle.” “Thank you for saving everything in the world that’s important to me.”
This is all a volunteer fire-fighter wants. What he needs is ‘proper equipment’.
Who knows it might be your house next!!!!
All money raised from the SuperSpar events this evening will be used to fund the following:
• Fire fighting equipment and clothing
• Recruiting and Training of volunteers
• Promotion of fire safety and awareness within all sectors of the community.
All equipment bought with these funds will remain the property of the organisation that will also maintain them.
