Captain Gerda Swart of the Uitenhage SAPS, under which Kouga falls for media reports, said a case of malicious damage to property was registered at SAPS Jeffreys Bay after a homemade device (petrol bomb) was thrown at a security vehicle.

Forensic experts were on the scene to collect evidence.

Hannes du Plessis, a co-owner of the company, related that the driver had just parked the vehicle in front of  security company’s Aandblom offices in C-Place on 16 June. He was given a lift home when eight minutes later, according to the security cameras,  the car was set alight.

Du Plessis said the back right window was broken and it appeared that ‘a paraffin  bomb’ was thrown inside the vehicle. Another security guard fortunately spotted the blaze and extinguished the fire, thus preventing more damage to the vehicle and probably blowing up.

No arrests have been made yet and anyone with information can contact Jeffreys Bay SAPS detectives.
