High speed cop chase after hit and run at Gordons Bay

In what were like scenes from a movie yesterday,  a man a raced off in his vehicle after an argument at a petrol station, crashed into some parked cars, sped off again with traffic cops and police in hot pursuit on the R44 coastal road at Gordons Bay.

He then abandoned his car to run down the cliff. The NSRI were called when it was believed the man had jumped off the cliff to evade law enforcers.

Francois Stevens, Gordons Bay NSRI duty coxswain, said, at 5. 7 pm on 8 June, volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from police who reported a man had apparently jumped over the cliff .

“Our duty crew responded and on arrival on-scene NSRI rescuers went down the cliff where they found the man, believed to be aged 35 and from Bellville. NSRI Gordons Bay rescuers rescued the man and brought him up the cliff to the roadway. Police them took him into custody.

According to a local security company the man had apparently been involved in some type of altercation with other motorists at a service station before apparently racing off, crashing into some  cars, racing off again with security company responders, police and traffic cops chasing after him. It appears the man’s vehicle had suffered mechanical failure on the coast road.

When NSRI Gordons Bay rescuers arrived on the scene the man was a few hundred meters down a cliff on the coast road and needed to be rescued.
