Heritage Day and the sun is shining over St Francis Bay today. There’s a slight breeze but no fierce wind so most of the holiday folk are on the town’s beaches.
A good many are also at the Heritage Centre which is holding a market and mini festival to celebrate ‘national braai day’.
There are lots of people on the Granny’s Pool beach and many spectators this morning. There’s a wide range of stalls set up selling things like cakes, bric-a-brac, a white elephant table, a face painting area and kiddies art area, Then there are plants outside and cooldrinks. Plus on the patio overlooking the Indian Ocean Spar once again is holding its braai specials . With Darryl Brian Geel from SuperSpar St Francis Bay as the maestro braai master, there is a big crowd of people clamouring for his prego and boerie riolls. Alongside is a team of ladies, including Anneke May, selling pancakes that are flying out of the pans.
The big excitement this morning occurred when all the little tots, dressed up in fun outfits, entered the fancy dress competition. There were some really great outfits and many walked off with presents and big smiles in front of their proud parents..
Then there was a fire demo by the local St Francis Bay fire department which literally hosed bathers on the beach. The swimmers were in their element and this event added to the overall excitement of the morning.
St Francis Chronicle captured a series of photos to illustrate the great time everyone is having. If you haven’t been there yet do pop along and support the event. Proceeds from today go to the Kromme Trust which looks after the Heritage Centre, the Community garden and many other scenic and environmental spots in St Francis Bay.
