At the beginning of the function, Surfing South Africa General Manager Robin De Kock politely asked the parents to stand and give their seats to the Junior Surfers – as the event was all about them – and all the parents stood up and gave their seats to the competitors. This event is all about the surfers, and this was a great way to usher in this ideology.

Then Brendan Callaghan, the KZN Central surfing champion, welcomed everyone to Durban and to the event. All contestants received their gift packs as team by team went up to the front wearing provincial team colours.
