Weather warning! The SA Weather Bureau ‘s Port Elizabeth office, has just issued a ‘Level 1’ warning of damaging waves and localised disruption to coastal roads, harbours or ports along the Eastern coastline between Plettenberg Bay and Algoa Bay this evening, spreading to East London tomorrow afternoon.
SAWS says the warning is valid from 6 pm this evening until 6pm tomorrow evening, 28 November.
Small boats are at risk of taking on water and capsizing from this evening to tomorrow afternoon. High waves and rip currents on beaches and at harbours and ports along the coastline are expected. Small boats are advised to seek shelter in ports and harbours.
A tight pressure gradient between a cold front and a high-pressure system is expected to result in strong and gale force westerly, to south-westerly winds which will enhance the sea state to about 4.0 to 6.5 from this evening. The adverse weather conditions could lead to disruptions in beach activities and on coastal roads (along N2 around NMB Metro), and difficulty in navigation, and small vessels capsizing.
Motorists on coastal roads are advised to drive with caution – (Edited)
