-Edited by Bev Mortimer –An elderly resident and a retired policeman were both shot dead this morning am at a frail care centre at Bluewater Bay.
Four cellphones, jewellery belonging to women and two TV sets were stolen.
The SAPS says the Swartkops police detectives are investigating the murders and robbery . They said the lounge window of the centre in Riverside Drive was forced opened and entry was gained by suspects who split up and went to the women’s and men’s sections of the house.
One resident, aged 55, was shot in the head as he came out of his room and died on the spot. Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says when the co-owner of the centre and who was policemen, aged 53, heard the shots and came out of his room to investigate, he was also shot dead in the passage.
The ex- cop, Riaan Van Aswegen, was based at the Algoa Park police station before retirement. The suspects then left the centre through a sliding door.
