The body of a Chinese tourist surfaced near Bell Buoy in Gqeberha/PE on Sunday.
It appears the Chinaman, age 50, had become unconscious during a scuba dive and was recovered onto a dive charter boat by the boat crew.
Responding to the scene the PE NSRI rescue craft met up with the dive charter boat a half a nautical mile from the entrance to the Port. On board crew were conducting CPR on the Chinese tourist.
The man was transferred onto the NSRI rescue craft, and with NSRI medics continuing CPR, he was brought to the NSRI Gqeberha rescue station where paramedics continued with advanced CPR life support .
After all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted he was declared deceased.
NSRI Gqeberha duty crew had been activated following reports from Transnet National Ports Authority, Port Elizabeth Port Control of CPR . The NSRI Gqeberha rescue craft, Rescue 6 Alpha was launched.
EC Government Health EMS and Relay ambulance services were activated. The SAPS attended at the scene and an inquest docket has been opened.
The body of the Chinaman was taken into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Condolences were conveyed to family of the deceased .
