Players, visitors and St Francis Bay party lovers can boogie and join in the fun at one of the town’s premier annual sport and social events – the Calamari Classic held over three days and nights at St Francis Bay’s Golf Club this week.
The entertainment organised is set to see party lovers boogie-ing until the wee hours and rocking in the aisles with the fantastic line up.
This 14th Calamari Classic runs from 22–24 September.
A record number of 256 players have registered this year with players from all over South Africa and even abroad. There have been one or two last minute cancellations so anyone wishing to play should quickly contact the club.
On Thursday evening is the opening function, which hosts the ever popular Thommo from PE, renowned for wowing attendees with his crooning voice and renditions of great ballads and top music hits. Then on the Friday and Saturday nights St Francis Bay’s own fantastic resident DJ, Johan Cronje, takes the mike. He has the knack of putting everyone in a party mood and getting folks dancing, come rain or shine.
The final prize-giving is on the Saturday night when the overall winner is announced. Each prize-giving starts at 7 pm, followed by dinner for players and ticket holders. Those who would like to have dinners, please book and buy tickets in advance of arriving at the Club. (Tel: 042 294 0467).
For those wishing to attend only the music events, these are scheduled to start around 8.30 pm each night – depending on the length of each night’s prize-giving.
Other excitement lined up for golfers is that at each prize-giving there will, in addition to all the other awesome prizes, be a hole-in-one prize for the 1st hole in one each day – to the value of R4000.
The Club organising team has taken great steps and undergone months of fine planning to bring about the professionally organised Calamari Golf Classic once again. The main sponsors are Barloworld Equipment, South African Breweries and Henry Tayler and Ries. Without them this event would not be possible.
Course staff, under the watchful eye of Pikke Langenhoven, the greenkeeper and superintendent, will be on duty as early as 4 am every morning to ensure the greens, fairways and tees have been cut and bunkers raked before the first T-off time of 6.15 am.
The clubhouse organising committe and staff will be available from 5:30 am every morning to assist all golfers getting ready for the day’s play. Food and drinks will be on sale throughout each day.
Family and friends can look forward to three days of good golf, fun, food and entertainment.
