A British tourist drowned at Cape Vidal Nature Reserve on the Kwa Zulu Natal North Coast in South Africa.
The NSRI sea rescue volunteer duty crew report that at around 1.30 pm, 8 September, NSRI St Lucia duty crew were activated following reports from Ezemvelo Wildlife rangers of a drowning in progress at a remote beach at the Nature Reserve.
An NSRI rescue vehicle, carrying NSRI rescue swimmers, and towing an NSRI rescue craft, responded and joined Ezemvelo Wildlife rangers on the scene.
The 47 year-old British tourist was recovered from the surf zone by NSRI rescue swimmers but sadly found to be deceased.. His body was taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and the SAPS opened an inquest docket.
KZN Private ambulance services assisted.
It is reported that appears that while on an arranged tour to Cape Vidal Nature Reserve the man went for a swim at the beach and when it was notice d he was in in difficulties in the surf , the alarm was raised.
The NSRI says condolences are conveyed to the family of the deceased man.
