Be cautious, don’t take risks on Eastern coast- NSRI

By Bev MortimerNSRI spokesperson , Craig Lambinon,  put out a warning today of further storm surges occurring today, Sunday along the Eastern and southern coastlines in South Africa.

Lambinon said the main concern at the moment is about the high Spring tide starting around 3pm today and peaking around 4 pm today, and lasting till about 5 pm 6 pm today

Today ,on Sunday, he said, there is “the potential for storm surges on our coastline”, in particular on the east coast, yet also on the Western Cape Coast on the South Cape Coast, the southern Cape Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu Natal and northwards up the East Coast.

We are appealing to the public to be cautious. Don’t take unnecessary risks! Stay away from danger. The spring tide will last probably into the next few of days!

Lambinon in his audio message also recounted damage all along the Eastern coastline in Western Cape province and in the Eastern Cape area of Gqeberha/PE , mentioning of note a drowning when a lady in car park was swept off her feet by a wave that penetrated the car park , people evacuated from caravans in PE, plus damage at a restaurant and structural damage at several places.

Lambinon added that on Friday with a new moon and in the springtime the adverse condition could last towards the Tuesday, Wednesday even Thursday, because it’s associated with these storm conditions that have prevailed. “We are are seeing much higher high tides and much lower low tides than normal anyway in a spring tides So it is a time to be cautious.”
