Only 35 fish were caught at this year’s Port St Francis Ski Boat and Yacht Club’s Tuna and Marlin Challenge .
The disappointing catch at one of the Eastern Province’s top fishing events, was owing to reduced competition time because of bad weather and only two days fished.
But though the fish were scarce the anglers arrived in their droves again this year to strive to obtain one of the great prizes. And their jovial spirit, plus the good organisation made this a fun and successful event.
The Top Angler, Tim Christy, won a R32 000 3m Suzumar Rubber Duck and 15 HP 4 stroke Suzuki Outboard Motor from Bayview Boating .
The Top Boat Prize for cumulative combined weight of two fish per day per boat went to Fun Days Too. The prize was four return tickets to Pemba in Mozambique from SA Airlink.
The top lady Lady Angler was Samantha Kelly, catching a 22 kg tuna on Tuckshop. The first tuna of the day on the Friday was caught by John Robson on Sahara and by Samantha Kelly, while the heaviest Dorado was caught by Dawie van Zyl on True North on Saturday.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Warren Rachman, thanked all the competitors and sponsors for the prizes that were donated..
