-Edited by Bev Mortimer- One alleged bank robber has been found and arrested in connection with PE bank robbery two years ago.
A suspected bank robber, who allegedly forced a PE bank teller to hand over +R27k or face injury in November 2021, was arrested last month.
The Gqeberha National Priority Violent Crime team of Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Hawks have reported they apprehended one suspect, Sinako Magi, aged 33, on 24 October, for his alleged part in the bank robbery at Absa Bank branch in Govan Mbeki Street, Central Gqeberha in November 2021.
Magi, who is reported to be serving a 15 years sentence in a Western Cape prison on a similar charge, appeared in Gqeberha New Law court on the day of his arrest.
The SAPS reports that on 22 November 2021, two men entered the Absa Bank branch and pretended to be clients. One of them reportedly approached the teller and handed over a note on a paper that forcefully instructed the teller to hand over cash in her drawer to avoid injuries or death.
The teller is reported to have complied with the instruction. She handed over more than R27 000 that was in her drawer.
Both alleged robbery suspects, left the bank after receiving the money. Investigations ensued by the SAPS and the Hawks, after the matter was reported and led to last month’s arrest of one of the suspects.
The co-accused is still at large and being sought by the police. The case against Magi was brought before n Gqeberha New Law court and was remanded to 7 November for legal representation.
