Sand River bridge is now closed – we are temporarily marooned again

The temporary crossing across the Sand River towards St Francis Bay has been closed.

According to an announcement from Kouga Municipality, the crossing, which was built after the Sand River bridge washed away on July 7 leaving St Francis isolated, held up well during yesterday’s heavy rains.

“The water level is rising, however, which prompted the closure of the crossing this morning. Municipal officials are assessing the situation,” the municipality said.

We’ll keep you posted.
