The current ASP World #4 started the cold and wet day of finals by defeating Mitch Coleborn (AUS) in smaller conditions than had been on offer throughout the event to set a SemiFinal matchup against teenage Hawaiian Ezekial Lau. Defeating Lau with a heat total of 15.00 points (out of a possible 20.00) to that of the 5.57 set by Lau deSouza moved into the final against Frenchman Joan Duru.
Fighting for the high scores deSouza rode a wave right over the rocks snapping one of his fins out, riding his backup board deSouza proceeded to set a final heat score of 16.00 to that of 13.60 set by Duru to claim the title of 2012 Billabong Pro JBay Champion. deSouza pockets US$25000 for his work and heads back to Brasil having lived out his dream of winning in Jeffreys Bay.
