Giant oil rig welcomed by African drum beats

A ‘gigantesque’ oil rig en route to Norway from China, docked at Coega harbour last month to the fanfare of the highly talented and colourfully clad African Drumbeat dancers.

The 24 000-ton, 6-storey rig, oil rig is owned by a Norwegian drilling company called Cosl. It stopped at Port of Ngqura on its way from China to Norway, taking on supplies and new crew.

While in port it was handled by Cape Town company, Kuehne & Nagel. Drumming singing dancing and beautiful colorful flags welcomed the Captain, Aksel Oren and his 120 crew.
