There will be a helicopter fly over of the northern corridors between Thyspunt and Port Elizabeth tomorrow, SiVest the Eskom Consultants for the proposed Thyspunt Transmission Lines Integration Project announced today.
It is likely the helicopter will fly low and circle over some areas along these corridors at times and this could perhaps occur over St Francis Bay, Cape St Francis, Oyster Bay and the farms along the Oyster Bay Road. The last time a helicopter flew over the Oyster Bay road and the farms along it, there was a big uproar from farmers whose livestock were terrified while nesting birds and wildlife were frightened and flew out of their nests.
In a statement sent to St Francis Chronicle today SiVEST says during the environmental specialists’ responses and public comments process a number of key issues regarding the Northern and Southern Corridors were identified that needed closer scrutiny both from an environmental and technical view point.
“To ensure that SiVEST can present environmentally sound corridors to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) it has become necessary for SiVEST and Eskom to do a fly-over of the Corridors by helicopter.
“It is envisaged that the helicopter might be circling some areas where technical constraints have been identified and it is hoped that it would not cause unnecessary disturbance in the area. It is however important to note that this exercise needs to be undertaken to ensure a robust process is undertaken in identified the most feasible corridors.
“The fly-over will be across the width of the proposed Northern and Southern Corridors. The fly-over is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 27 June 2012 and you will be able to identify the helicopter with registration number ZS‐CGV.”
