Two teenager surfers suffered lacerations when they collided with another surfer at Kitchen Window Reef, Jeffreys Bay yesterday ( 25 March).
They were treated on shore by NSRI medics and then transported to hospital in stable conditions. The surfer that they collided with was uninjured.”
According to Rieghard Janse van Rensburg, NSRIJeffreysBaystation commander, at 6.26 pm, while preparing to close the sea rescue base for the day, NSRIJeffreysBayvolunteer sea rescue duty crew noticed a commotion on the rocks on the shore about half a km from the base. “We activated our Discovery Rescue Runner while NSRI volunteers on our Discovery Quad Bike responded to investigate.
“On arrival on-scene we found a 15 year-old male and a 16 year-old female suffering injuries after reportedly colliding with a surfer while they were also surfing. Both were brought ashore by fellow surfers.”
The male, Teagan Doyle, fromC Place,JeffreysBay, suffered a laceration to the head, possible spinal injuries and concussion. He was treated, stabilised and his cervical spine immobilised as a precaution on-scene by NSRI medics. The medics also monitored him for secondary drowning symptoms as it was reported that he had been under water for some time following the incident.
The female, Carla Jooste, from Wavecrest,JeffreysBay, suffered a laceration to her head and she was stabilised on-scene also by NSRI medics. An ambulance was summoned and the pair were transported to hospital in stable conditions.
