A young Port St Johns’ woman is still missing at sea today after she and a friend were washed off rocks by a wave at the Gap, near Second Beach.
A search by Port St Johns NSRI has revealed no sign of the missing female in her early 20s. The SAP force is now continuing with the search for her. Her friend, 24 year old Abby Sullee from the State of Kansas, USA, was rescued by a shark diving charter vessel.
NSRI Port St Johns volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated just before 9 am (Thursday, 22nd March) following a request for assistance from local shark diving charter skipper, Rob Nettleton, reporting that he had picked up Abby from the water and was bringing her ashore on his dive charter boat.
Rob told NSRI he had been returning ashore from chartering some passengers out to sea when he noticed a commotion in the waves at the Gap. He then found Abby in difficulty in the water. He then rescued her and brought her safely ashore.
“A second female from Port St Johns was also swept off the rocks at the same time and she remains missing,” says John Costello, NSRI Port St Johns station commander.
Abby and her husband Adam have been staying with the family of the missing woman while in Port St Johns.
“Abby was reunited with her husband on shore. We believe they recently opened a church or a mission in Alexandria, Johannesburg,” John said..
Abby was treated for shock but is otherwise uninjured.
It is believed that the two were sitting on rocks close to the sea when a wave swept them off the rocks and into the sea.
