News Flash: Tourists robbed on St Francis Bay beach today

A tourist on St Francis Bay’s beach today was allegedly accosted by knife wielding assailants who tied her up with fishing wire, then made off with a phone and cash.

The daring robbery in broad daylight took place on Peter Crescent beach, St Francis Bay, at around 2 pm.

Two women tourists – a woman and her mother – went to the beach this afternoon. The elder woman went for a walk leaving her daughter sitting alone on the beach.

The daughter, in her 30s, was then allegedly suddenly confronted by two men who were brandishing knives. They threatened to kill her if she screamed.

The men then allegedly placed a towel over the woman’s head, then tied her hands behind her back with fishing wire, plus they tied her feet together with the wire. They then also allegedly made off with a large amount of cash and a cellphone.

The woman managed to free herself, then ran in search of her mother and to get help.

Update (15 February 2012): Two suspects were arrested by the SAP later yesterday:
