
An ill fisherman having seizures was evacuated off a chokka fishing boat offshore of St Francis Bay today by the town’s volunteer NSRI crew.
Marc May, NSRI St Francis Bay station commander, said just before 1 pm today the duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the chokka fishing boat, Fariki, four nautical miles off-shore of St Francis Bay. The boat reported that a 35 year old male crewman fromJeffreysBayhad collapsed onboard and was believed to be having seizures.
The duty crew launched the sea rescue craft, Spirit of St Francis II, and responded to the scene, accompanied by a 24/7 ambulance service paramedic. On arrival on the boat the patient was stabilised, then brought ashore to the NSRI sea rescue base.
The man was transported to hospital in a stable condition.
