The bypass is on track and should be open to vehicles from about 1pm tomorrow, the Kouga Municipality has annnounced in a late afternoon press release.
The municipality and the Department of Roads and Transport will conduct a full investigation into what happened to cause the Sand River bridge to collapse, the release states. “The aim of the investigation will be to identify factors that led to its collapse and what measures can be put in place to prevent this from recurring.”
The municipality says it will also be conducting a broader study of the Sand River catchment area to determine measures to adopt to prevent a recurrence. Plus there will be further discussions between the municipality and St Francis Links regarding the management of the dams.
Kouga, Cacadu and the Department of Roads and Transport will form a partnership to re-establish the road. While the R330 is a provincial road, Kouga and Cacadu will be involved because it affects their municipal area directly.
In other news the the municipalitys says work on fixing the broken water line from the Churchill dam is also underway again. Kouga expects to have it fixed by Monday. “Till then, we ask residents to continue using water sparingly,” the municipality spokesperson asks. “We are making use of boreholes and the St Francis Links well, but the reservoir does not fill up as quickly from these sources as it would from the Churchill line.
