-Edited by Bev Mortimer – A 31 year-old Ukrainian seaman suffering from a medical complaint was evacuated from a bulk carrier boat in Algoa Bay off shore of Gqeberha/PE.a Bay.
NSRI Gqeberha volunteer duty crew were alerted and launched the NSRI rescue craft, Rescue 6 Alpha. They met up with the boat in 1-meter sea swells in Algoa Bay.
The sailor, in a stable condition, was transferred onto the NSRI rescue craft and brought to the NSRI rescue station at PE port in the care of the paramedics. An ambulance transported the man to hospital for further care.
