SARS busts R80-million mandrax haul at border

 SARS Customs officials busted an R80-million mandrax drug haul valued at almost R80-million at the Kopfontein – Botswana border post in North-West province yesterday, 16 April.

Two foreign nationals were  arrested for drug smuggling and handed over to police.

The bust occurred when an empty truck was stopped for routine inspection. Customs Detector dogs then reacted positively to narcotics and 141 packages were found in false compartments in the truck.

The packets contained 1 428 140 mandrax  tablets worth R78 547 700 were confiscated and two men, the truck and the tablets were handed to the SAP.
