Gale Force Winds, Rough Seas and Big Sea Swells

NSRI urges sea users to exercise caution as rough seas, gale force winds and big sea swells prevail around the coast from today and lasting until after the weekend.

A new Moon Spring Tide (bringing stronger than normal rip-currents, higher than normal high tides and lower than normal low tides) prevails from now into early next week which, coupled with the current adverse weather, may make sea conditions extremely hazardous to sea users. All sea users are urged to take necessary precautions.

The NSRI also says according to  SA Weather Service’ s current warning, there will be gales, very rough seas and heavy swells today and tomorrow.  Gale force north-westerly winds are expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas, spreading to the south coast of the Western Cape overnight, and moderating north of Cape Agulhas on Friday morning.

Very rough seas and heavy swell (4 to 6m) are expected between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay, spreading to Durban  on Friday and reaching 6 to 9m between Cape Columbine and East London and persisting until Saturday. Showers are also expected.
