A successful charity bridge competition was hosted by the St Francis Bay Bridge Club last month with 72 participants from Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay as well as .locals.

The St Francis Bay Community Home Care Service and the Humansdorp SPCA were the beneficiaries of the day which included  proceeds from a raffle.

Everything ran like clockwork despite this being the first St Francis Bay competition in which the scoring was done electronically. With the electronic system, the final results are computed automatically and are available immediately at the end of the competition.

The competition was played in two sections each consisting of nine tables, with both having the same hands so that there were overall winners for both North/South and East/West.

Winners of N/S were Guy Wilson and Mike Starke from St Francis Bay and the E/W Winners were Philip and Margaret Morgan of Jeffreys Bay. The winner of the raffle was Una Moolman, also from Jeffreys Bay. In addition to the main prizes, there were several lucky prize draws which added to the day.

The event was held at St Francis Bay Golf Club and Janine van der Mewe and her team plus the caterers were thanked . Bridge chairperson, Judy Beck, and her committee were thanked for the superb organisation plus Arie Ridderhof of the Port Alfred Bridge Club was also thanked for the loan of extra Bridgemate electronic scorers.
