NSRI National H/O urges extreme caution around the coastlines in South Africa as cold fronts are bringing high swells and dangerous sea conditions.
A man was swept off rocks in Hermanus by a wave and despite an extensive search he is missing. This happened during the Full Moon Spring high tide.
In Knysna the NSRI sea rescue base has been flooded causing damage but the sea rescue station remains operational and on high alert. Here are some photos sent to NSRI H/O by crew from the Knysna base. The seas are so big that the base’s storm gates have washed away and the boat shed has been completely flooded.
“Big sea swells brought in by a series of cold fronts together with the Full Moon Spring Tide has resulted in dangerous sea conditions around our coast. Extreme caution is advised particularly to anglers fishing from shore, boaters, paddlers, bathers. We urge people not venture along harbour walls where waves could sweep over harbour walls,” the NSRI says.
