Not a hat trick as he came in third yesterday, but St Francis Bay’s Clive Rabie’s combined score over the three mostly gruelling golfing days earned him the first prize in the Calamari Classic golfing event.
The packed St Francis Bay GC clubhouse cheered as Rabie was presented with a top of the range pricey watch from Gabriel of Gabriel Jewellers in Jeffreys Bay at prize giving. Rabie played consistently throughout the tournament.
He came 2nd for the first two days, despite the miserable weather, each time taking home a golf bag. A delighted Rabie says his new golf club is the reason for his success and improvement in play.
Rabie, whose total score was 113, was followed into second place by Fred van Eyssen with 106 points, Fouche Swart with 105, Andrew Zeelie with 103, and Anton Emslie with 103.
The Old Man trophy for the highest scoring senior golfer went to Garth Enslin with103 pts.
The overall ladies’ winner for the three days was Renee Wales who achieved 97 points She also went home with a magnificent pricey ladies watch with encrusted diamonds from Gabriel Jewellers. Wales was followed into 2nd place by Caroline Kettlewell with 94 and Annemie du Toit in 3rd with 92.
The winner, of the final day’s’ play was Annemie du Toit from Paarl, who achieved 40 points, earning her Airlink tickets to ‘anywhere’. Du Toit was followed into 2nd place by Fouche Swart with 40, into 3rd by Clive Rabie with 40, in 4th by MJ du Bruyn with 40 and into 5th by Caroline Kettlewell, with 39.
The final days’ sponsor was Infinity Tyres that offered a R5000 prize for a golfer who achieved a hole in one. As no one managed this feat, Infinity Tyres donated the R5000 cheque to the St Francis Bay GC.
The Winning Team members on the final day were Fouche Swart, Louis Boag, Mj Du Bruyn Nnd Norman Pretorius.
At prize giving the sponsors, Barloworld Equipment, Airlink, Henry Tayler and Ries. Infinity Tyres and Gabriel jewllers, were thanked for their support and lovely prizes such as Russell Hobbs kitchen appliances each night plus Airlinks tickers, golfing equipment liquor and fishing rods for thiose who came last. Committee members admin staff and green keepers all received praise for their hard work and efforts to make the 14th Calamari Classic golf event a big success.
