Kouga Municipality via Oyster Bay Residents Association is preparing a Dune Management Plan in order to address encroachment of dunes onto the Slang River estuary, Public Open Space, roads and private properties in Oyster Bay Village.
It will include the dune encroaching into the Slang River estuary that is forcing its channel eastward, resulting in the destruction of the public amenities and erosion of parking space at the western end of Brander Street, and erosion of private properties. Pedestrian beach access across the dunes via suitably designed walkways and boardwalks will also be addressed.
This activity requires an Environmental Impact Assessment in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998. The DEDEAT application reference number is EC08/C/LN1&3/M/36-2013. A public meeting will be held from 10 am to 12 noon on Thursday 8th August 2013 at the Oyster Bay Community Hall, Oyster Lane, Oyster Bay, followed by an optional site visit.
Comments and concerns must be submitted in writing (e-mail or letter) by 6 September 2013.
All comments will form part of an issues trail that will be submitted to the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism to assist them with their decision regarding the proposed Dune Management Plan.
