An alert guard saved the life of a bushbuck yesterday after two hunting dogs attacked it.
The dogs hunting on the road to Rebelsrus would have killed the bushbuck ram if the guard had not chased them off.
The guard on duty at the entrance to the road off the R330 heard the commotion of barking dogs and went to investigate. He rushed in the direction of the noise and spotted two dogs pulling a bushbuck down .
His angry shouts caused the dogs to back off from the buck. They then raced in the direction of Cape St Francis.
The buck fortunately was not too badly harmed. It managed to right itself and run into the bushes.
The guard reported the incident to his employers. A search is now underway in Cape St Francis for the owner of the two dogs.
