Edged into second place by a mere 1.1 points were the Locals made up of Andre Scheepers, Rewaldo Abersalie, Jono Coffey, Paul Van Rijswijck and Robyn Van der Merwe while the Dynamos comprising Matthew McGillivray, Daniel Rumbelow, Giovanna, Tamlyn Gill and Britney Linder, were third.

The Hungry Lions team of Angelo Faulkner, Jerry Van Wyk, Ivan Fircks, Jonathan Naude and Amba Holmes placed fourth.
The members of these four teams shared R4 250 in prize money.
Thirty five energetic Eastern Cape surfers participated in the event and coped well in the small but contestable surf at Pollock Beach on 11 September.
Surfers between the ages of eight and 16 competed in the event which catered for rookies as well as established elite surfers and although conditions at the Pipe were small they were  ideal for the format used in this type of team orientated contest.
Unlike standard surfing events which focus on individual performance, the Lizzard Tag Series uses the Surfing South Africa ‘tag team’ format which sees teams of all age divisions and surfing ability competing against each other in teams of five.
“This remains a great format for these young surfers” said Lizzard’s Gavin Roberts, “The tag event is a team contest which is as important as individual competition. The surfers make up their own teams and get to give their team a special name. They all feel part of something and are not just in it for themselves.”
The event attracted surfers from the Port Elizabeth based Sunset and CYOH Surf Clubs, the J Bay Board riders and J Bay Surf Clubs as well as surfers from Cape St Francis and other parts of the Eastern Cape.
The final Lizzard Tag Series event takes place at the Pipe at Strand Beach on October 15 and is open to surfers from Boland Surfing Association, WP Surfing and Southern Cape Board riders. The entry form is available on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za.
The Lizzard Tag Series is sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, the governing body for the sport. This event was hosted by the Eastern Province Surfing Council and is one of Surfing South Africa’s talent identification projects.
