12 year-old boy missing in Mykonos surf

A 12 year-old boy is still missing this morning after disappearing in the sea at Mykonos just before 6 pm yesterday evening. Nic Stevens, NSRI Mykonos station commander, said: NSRI Mykonos volunteer duty crew were activated by the SAPS following eye witness reports of a drowning in progress. A search started for the local boy, who was reportedly caught up in rip currents in the wave wave line during outgoing tide.

SAPS WPDS divers launched a police boat, NSRI Mykonos launched its NSRI rescue craft Rotary Onwards from NSRI Mykonos satellite station at St Helena Bay, plus police, paramedics, NSRI Mykonos shore crew and community members conducted shoreline search efforts. Despite an extensive sea and shoreline search there remains no sign of the child. SAPS WPDS divers are continuing their ongoing search. Family of the missing child are being supported by police in this difficult time.
